out of options (continued)

What happens when you are out of options?  I mean really out of options.  What do you do?

I don’t remember many of those moments and I have only heard a few stories of those moments.  I want to share my memories of times when I witnessed or heard the message of no options.

  1. My dad’s cancer:

James William Burchfield passed in May 1985.  He had battled cancer for 5 months and passed when my oldest daughter was just over one month old.  Bitter sweet to witness birth and death so close together.  I remember well the absence of options as he clung to Jesus.  I was honored to see him take his last breath and be in the presence of Jesus that very moment.

  1. Haiti January 12, 2010:

My friend Louis Henri Mars stood in the square of Port of Prince on January 12, 2010 talking with friends.  The earthquake began to shake the whole island.  When the shaking stopped he remembers dead silence for what seemed forever.  Haiti is a place of many gods’ and the people of Haiti have a history of worship to many gods’ and places of false hope.  Louis remembers the break of silence and the only name called upon.  The only name he heard was JESUS.  No other names!  With no options the name of JESUS was the only option called out in the destruction by the people of Haiti.

  1. My leg infection:

I have done some stupid things and this was one of my stupidest moments.  I had a toe injury while in Africa in 2010, which I reinjured in May while in Peru.  I did not treat is and my toe got infected.  Really infected.  Three weeks ago, I came down with Flu like symptoms and at the end of two days I was unresponsive.  The infection had resurfaced again.  Spotting a red spot on my lower leg, my wife quickly sought advice from our doctor friend and took me to the ER.  I don’t think I knew how close to death I was and how close to no options.  Better now and very thankful.

Through this I was reminded of different places where all of us place our hope.

The list can be endless.  I have a feeling the longer I live my life will be filled with times where there are no options.

When have you been out of options?

Where did you first call?

Where did you finally find peace?

Please respond and help me with my survey.

Peace when you are out of options comes down to a simple question.

Where have you placed you hope?

Could your answer be any of the below?

  1. My health
  2. My kid’s
  3. My marriage
  4. My job
  5. My income

In my life, I have placed my hope in many places only to be very disappointed and let down by the outcome.  I have only found one.  Not a place but a person.  Jesus!

He was given the name above all names.  There is power in the name of Jesus.  He is the hope of glory and the only place/person where hope will stand the test and never disappoint you.

2:5-11 – Let Jesus himself be your example as to what your attitude should be. For he, who had always been God by nature, did not cling to his prerogatives as God’s equal, but stripped himself of all privilege by consenting to be a slave by nature and being born as mortal man. And, having become man, he humbled himself by living a life of utter obedience, even to the extent of dying, and the death he died was the death of a common criminal. That is why God has now lifted him so high, and has given him the name beyond all names, so that at the name of Jesus “every knee shall bow”, whether in Heaven or earth or under the earth. And that is why, in the end, “every tongue shall confess” that Jesus is the Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Call on the name above all names and you will experience peace like you have never known.
