he went up on the hill-side

The most famous words Jesus spoke were recorded in Matthew 5-7.  This is is called the “Sermon on the Mount”.  He begins with words that have encouraged me, comforted me, healed me and reminded me of the things most important in life.

I was recently in one of those times.  I attended the anniversary of an organization I have been a part of for almost 40 years.  We celebrated the legacy of the men and women who gave themselves so that the high schools kids in our community could see Jesus lived out before them.  I was fortunate to serve 36 years ago.  I was ask to continue the work after a close friend left to move west.  It was a very hard time for all of us.  I served for two years and guarded the work so those after me could continue touching the lives of teenagers.  After two years, I moved to the marketplace where I have been ever since.  As recognition was given to those who served, my memories were both bitter and sweet.

I tossed and turned all night as Jesus reminded me of HIS measuring stick for completeness.  As usual, I was mixed up and needed to be reminded of what is important.  As soon as I rose I went to his words in Matthew: “Happy are those who are hungry and thirsty for goodness, for they will be fully satisfied!”.  His words directed me how to live my life fully satisfied by focusing on goodness.  In my heart I want to serve to the glory of ONE.

Jesus, cleanse my evil need for recognition and let me be hungry and thirsty for goodness.  You will cleanse me and I will be fully satisfied!  Jesus, thank you for calling me up to the hill-side to sit with you and be healed, comforted and set on a straight path by you.

I began listening to some of my favorite music as Jesus healed my heart.  My favorite james and carol song is below.  I got to go “Up on the Roof’ this morning and be healed by my savior.
